Meet the Team

We are pleased to hear this week from Charles Parry. Charles has been with Woollcombe Yonge for many years and tells us more about his personal and professional life.

Name: Charles Parry

Role: Consultant Solicitor

Department: Commercial Services

1.What is your proudest accomplishment (either personal or professional)?

On a personal level, becoming a Dad is on the top of my list. Second is sliding down a long bannister at Buckingham Palace after receiving my Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award in 1977!

On a professional level, becoming President of Plymouth Law Society in 2014.

2.What do you like most about your job?

The people, namely building relationships and friendships to assist clients in achieving their aims. I also enjoy working as a team day to day with good and fun colleagues.

3.What do you like least about your job?

IT (I do my best!)

4.What is the best gift you’ve ever given/received

There are two gifts, and they are both from my children. A cast iron hammer with wooden handle which my son made in his Design Technology classes (I have never dared to hit a nail with it!) and a fired clay self-portrait statue made by my daughter at school.

5.What does your ideal day look like?

To wake early with a cup of tea. Read a book and take a long walk with family or friends on Dartmoor or the SW Coast Path. I would finish this off with a pub lunch (including a pint of decent ale!), fire up the wood burner and watch a good film.

6.What do you like to do in your spare time?

Lots of daily walking and gardening but also tennis, golf, cricket (I am chair of my local club) and following Exeter Chiefs. Generally, I love spending precious time with family and friends and independent travel (India being the highlight so far but I actually want to see more of the UK over the next few years).

7.What is your dream job?

Travel writer.

8.What was the most interesting case you have dealt with at work?

Sale of an island.

9.Where is one place you’d love to travel to?

Patagonia and Tierra del Fuego in South America

10.What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?

Work hard, do your best but don’t take yourself and life too seriously.

"As a family we found the service provided to us was delivered with ’empathy’ and was in fact ‘outstanding’, we would most certainly recommend Woollcombe Yonge to friends.”
