Restorative Justice Week

This week marks Restorative Justice Week. The ambition is to provide a unique opportunity every year to focus public attention on restorative justice, to the benefits it can create for society, and to bring together communities globally and locally that are committed to address injustices and harm in a humane way.

Restorative justice (RJ) allows both a victim and offender to meet with a goal of sharing their experience of what happened.

It helps victims to reduce any feelings of anxiety, empowering them as part of their personal rehabilitation.

It also enables a consensus to be reached around what the offender can do to take responsibility for their actions, whilst preventing the potential for further harm. It is often the case that people who have caused harm or injury, want to have the opportunity in a safe manner to apologise for their actions.

Rebecca Wood in our Crime Department has collaborated with Make Amends in Devon to help raise awareness of restorative justice. You can find the video where Rebecca explains this partnership and what restorative justice looks like from a criminal solicitor’s perspective on our Facebook and LinkedIn pages.

"As a family we found the service provided to us was delivered with ’empathy’ and was in fact ‘outstanding’, we would most certainly recommend Woollcombe Yonge to friends.”
